At the very least, we need to tolerate those that are different than us; those of a different race, ethnicity, sexual orientation, or belief system. It’s even better if we can not only accept, but celebrate those differences as long as they’re loving and constructive and not hateful and destructive. The pinnacle of this caring is to actually protect those different from ourselves. It goes against our tribal instincts to protect only our own, but it is the truest meaning of “love thy neighbor”. And it also means to love our “enemy”, who is often perceived as a threat because of their differences. The crystal they both carry speaks to their common humanity.

Supported by brass-accented iron bars, are pieces of eroded gypsum, which came from atop the likes of Kitchen Mesa, located at Ghost Ranch, NM. These ancient, Jurassic age minerals (approx. 160 mya!) contain little caves containing multi-faceted crystals. At the base of the sculpture are pieces of gnarled cedar and a beautifully finished slab of elm, both of which are decades old if not surpassing the century mark! More recently the handiwork of man is evidenced by the metal bearing casing. And the final touch, is an eroded bone from some wild animal.
